Which IK Sprayer? Foam Pro 2 vs 2+ vs Alkaline vs Multi Pro vs HC XTREM
IK makes a confusing number of sprayers. For rinseless wash and pre-wash at a self-serve bay, one of them is the right answer.
IK Sprayers is the brand most detailers reach for, and the lineup has grown enough that the names blur together. Here's the sorting, with the recommendation up front: for a no-hose routine that mists rinseless wash and foams pre-wash, buy the IK Foam Pro 2+.
Foam Pro 2 vs Foam Pro 2+
Same sprayer: about 1.9 liters gross, 1.25 liters useful, three foam mixer inserts (orange = wet, grey = standard, green = dry), pressure-relief valve, hand pump. The 2+ adds a Schrader valve so you can pressurize with a tire inflator or compressor. That's the only difference. Get the 2+ if you own or want an inflator; the plain 2 if you'll always hand pump.
Foam Pro 2 Alkaline
The "Alk" version swaps the standard FKM (Viton-type) seals for EPDM and adds a grey felt strip rated for extreme alkalis, pH 11 to 14. It's for shops running caustic degreasers and APCs all day. Bilt-Hamber Touch-Less and similar consumer pre-washes are moderately alkaline and are used in standard IKs for years without trouble; rinseless wash is nearly neutral. The Alkaline model also has no Schrader valve and is less compatible with acids and solvents. Skip it unless you foam a strong caustic every wash.
Multi Pro 2 and Multi Pro 12
The Multi Pro 2 is the same size as the Foam Pro 2 but is a straight sprayer with an adjustable cone-to-fan nozzle; it can't foam. Perfect for rinseless if you'll never do a pre-wash, but it locks you out of foaming at the bay. The Multi Pro 12 is a 10-liter tank sprayer with a shoulder strap, hose, and wand; the 12+ adds a compressed-air socket. Great for multiple vehicles, overkill and heavy for one car at the curb.
HC XTREM 1.5
A 1.5-liter handheld with seals rated for hydrocarbons: oils, solvents, tar removers, petroleum-based dressings. It doesn't foam and offers nothing for rinseless or pre-wash. Only buy it if you spray solvent-based products.
Why the Foam Pro 2+ wins
It's the only handheld that does all three things this routine needs: a wet mist of rinseless (orange insert), a clinging pre-wash or wheel-cleaner foam at the bay (grey or green), and inflator filling through the valve. And if the inflator dies, it still hand pumps. One sprayer, both routines.
Have a hose? The Foam Pro 2+ is still the pick — a hose replaces the bay for the rinse, and a hose-end foam gun can take over the maintenance pre-wash if you'd rather not carry the pump foamer.
