Privacy Policy

This site is a static website. It has no user accounts and no comments, and it does not sell or share personal information. The one thing it can collect is an email address, and only if you type it into the signup form yourself.

Email. If you type your address into the signup form, it goes to Buttondown, which stores the list and sends the messages on my behalf. The form posts straight to them, so your address reaches their servers directly and is held under their privacy policy as well as this one.

What is collected: your email address. Nothing else. No name, no location, no "how did you hear about us". The form has one field because one field is all it needs, and there is no account to create. Buttondown also records the mechanics of delivery — whether a message reached you and whether it bounced — which is how any mail gets sent at all.

What it is for. Telling you when something here changes: a bay gets visited and verified, the wash log contradicts a guide, a product I recommend changes formula. That is the only thing the list is ever used for. It is not sold, not shared, and never used to carry advertising for anyone else.

Leaving. Every message has an unsubscribe link in the footer. It works immediately and does not ask you why. If you would rather the record were gone entirely rather than marked unsubscribed, reply to any message and I will delete it.

Analytics. If site analytics are enabled, they are privacy-respecting and aggregate (page views, referrers, country) and do not identify individual visitors. Links in the newsletter arrive carrying a visible source parameter in the address, which is how a visit from the list is told apart from someone arriving directly. It is the same parameter for every reader, it identifies the newsletter and not you, and it is read by this site's own analytics rather than by Buttondown.

Affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link (for example to Amazon), the retailer may set a cookie in your browser so it can attribute a purchase to this site. That cookie is controlled by the retailer under its own privacy policy, not by this site.

Hosting. The site is hosted on Vercel, which may log standard request data (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for security and operations under Vercel's privacy policy.

No third-party scripts. Apart from the analytics tag above, this site loads no scripts, fonts, images or embeds from anyone else's servers. The typeface is served from this domain. There is no tag manager, no advertising network, no social widget, and no consent banner — because there is nothing to consent to. The signup form is plain HTML with no script attached: it loads nothing, sets no cookie, and does nothing at all unless you submit it, at which point your browser posts to Buttondown and you end up on their page. The emails are the same: no tracking pixel, and links go where they say they go rather than through a click redirect. Nothing measures whether you opened a message or what you did with it.
