Truly Touchless — Nothing Touches the Paint

Tier 3 of 3Truly touchless — when nothing should touch the paint

Have a hose? A garden hose with a good nozzle or a pressure washer replaces the bay wand and the bucket-fed power cleaner. The spray-on/rinse-off sealant and blower steps are identical.

Companion to the Quick Start, Pre-Wash, and Mixing Card. This is the zero-contact version: foam → rinse → spray-on/rinse-off sealant → rinse → blow dry. No towel, no sponge, no wipe. It needs a pressure rinse, so it's a self-serve wand bay routine; a bucket-fed cordless pressure washer is the curbside alternative at the end.

Honest expectations: you trade a little perfection for zero risk of swirls. Expect an occasional water spot or drip line (NYC water is soft, so it's minor), a slightly less "wiped" gloss than the ONR W&W finish, and lower panels that hold onto bonded film longer than they would with a wipe. On a highway-dust commuter that's a fine trade; if film builds up over months, one ONR W&W wipe resets it.

What you need#

Item Pick Alternative Notes
Pre-wash Bilt-Hamber Touch-Less in the IK Foam Pro 2+ (grey/green insert) Auto-Foam / CarPro Lift / Gyeon Foam Same as pre-wash guide: 6–25 mL per 1.25 L fill (0.5–2%). 2% is the manufacturer maximum.
Wheel cleaner (optional) Touch-Less at 2%, or an APC (All Clean, Brake Buster) — Green insert, wheels first.
Spray-on / rinse-off sealant Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax (~$15–20, Walmart/AutoZone) Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Wet Wax (~$12) · Gyeon WetCoat / CarPro HydrO2 (longer-lasting, online) Ready-to-use trigger bottle. Spray on the wet car, rinse off. ~1–2 months of beading.
Cordless blower EGO 56V (any 530+ CFM model) or Ryobi 40V Whisper / Milwaukee M18 Fuel Any cordless leaf blower ≥ 450 CFM Doubles as a yard tool. Bring a spare battery if you have one.
Bay money $6–12 in quarters/card — Foam, rinse, sealant, rinse cycles + spot-free.

You do not need: bucket, sponge, towels (except one in the trunk for emergencies), the Kwazar bottle.

The routine (self-serve wand bay, ~15 minutes)#

Setup before you leave home: IK filled with Touch-Less (grey insert), sealant bottle, blower charged, quarters. Park in a bay in the shade if there's a choice; if it's blazing hot, work in halves so nothing dries.

  1. Wheels first (optional). Foam wheels and tires (green insert or the same Touch-Less fill), 1–2 min dwell.
  2. Quick pre-rinse if there's loose mud or salt crust — knock the chunks off so the foam works on the film.
  3. Foam the body bottom-up, then top-down. Lower doors, rear hatch, front bumper heaviest.
  4. Dwell 1–5 min. Never let it dry. Feed the meter while you wait; watch the dirt run.
  5. Pressure-rinse top-down, thoroughly. Wand 12–18 in from paint, overlapping passes, panel gaps, mirrors, grille, arches, behind the wheels. This rinse is doing the whole job — take your time and use more water than feels necessary. Any Touch-Less left behind will streak under the sealant.
  6. Inspect from arm's length. Still visibly filmy on the lower panels? Foam and rinse those areas again. (No fingertip test — you're not touching.)
  7. Sealant, on the wet car. Panel by panel: light mist of Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax over the wet paint, glass, and trim, then immediately rinse it off with the wand on the same panel. Don't let it sit; don't spray the whole car and then rinse. Two or three sprays per panel is plenty — over-applying is what causes streaks. Wheels and glass can get it too.
  8. Final rinse — spot-free if the bay has it. Top-down, sheeting the water off (hold the wand close to the panel and let it flow, not blast) so most of the water runs off on its own.
  9. Blow dry. Pull out to the vacuum/parking area. Roof and glass first, then hood and trunk, then doors top-down, then mirrors, door handles, grille, badges, panel gaps, and finally the lower body and wheels. Blow water off the car, not around it — angle the nozzle so water runs down and away. Standing water in the mirror housings and door gaps is what drips later; spend an extra few seconds there.
  10. Drive. Anything the blower missed will sheet off at speed thanks to the sealant.

Reapply the sealant every visit — it's ten seconds a panel and it's what makes rain and the next rinse work harder for you. Full-strength beading lasts about a month; you're topping up before it fades.

What to expect over time#

Curbside alternative: bucket-fed cordless pressure washer#

If a bay isn't practical, a cordless "power cleaner" that siphons from a bucket gives you a real rinse anywhere. Be honest about what it is: 300–600 psi and under 1 gpm — a very strong hose, not a bay wand.

Pick Notes
Ryobi 18V EZClean (~$100–130 bare) Best value, 320 psi, siphon hose included, uses common batteries.
Worx Hydroshot 20V / 40V Similar; 40V version is stronger.
Sun Joe cordless / Greenworks 24V Fine, check siphon hose is included.

Water: you'll need roughly 8–12 gal (2 buckets) for foam rinse + sealant rinse on an SUV. Fill at home; a collapsible bucket or two 5-gal buckets with lids in the trunk.

Workflow changes: - Same order (foam → rinse → sealant → rinse → blow), but the rinse is weaker, so dwell the foam a bit longer (3–5 min, still never dry), rinse slower, and be ready to foam twice on the lower panels. - Use it for dust and light film. Caked winter salt and mud need the bay — this won't shift it, and under-rinsing salt is worse than leaving it. - Sealant step is the same: mist the wet panel, immediately rinse with the power cleaner. - Battery: one 4 Ah pack ≈ one SUV. Charge both the washer and blower batteries before you go. - Legality/etiquette: rinsing at the curb in NYC is generally tolerated but avoid running foam into storm drains near people; that's part of why Touch-Less (biodegradable) is a good pick.

Don'ts#

Cheat sheet#

Situation Do
Regular bay visit Foam → dwell → rinse → sealant per panel + rinse → spot-free → blow dry
Very dirty / winter Pre-rinse → foam 2% → longer dwell → thorough rinse (arches, underbody) → sealant → blow dry
Lower panels look dull after months One ONR W&W wipe reset, or 2% Touch-Less + long rinse
No bay Cordless power cleaner + 2 buckets: dust and light film only
Windshield wipers judder Skip sealant on windshield, or glass cleaner + glass towel at home
Freezing out Bay rinse only; skip sealant and blower; drive

When something changes, I'll tell you what and where

A bay gets verified, the wash log contradicts a guide, a product I recommend changes formula — that's when a note goes out, and it says what changed and which page it changed on. Roughly monthly, often less, sometimes not for a season. No sequence, no course, nothing to buy.
